Some of the follies are newly built structures based on classic and contemporary examples at estates elsewhere. Others are historic Winterthur garden structures. Together, they form an entertaining and fresh way to discover and experience the Winterthur Garden. Admission tickets include Enchanted Woods, a three-acre garden for children, and an introductory tour of the mansion.

8 Tips for Riding the Tube

The London Underground, also known as the Tube, stretches across London and connects with stations nationally and internationally. It’s comprehensive, but also packed and chaotic. Despite the Tube’s faults, it’s the fastest and most economical way to get around London. Make sure to get your Oyster card, a plastic smartcard to travel on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, River Bus services and most National Rail services in London.

London Perfect, a vacation apartment rental and sales agency offers eight tips for riding the London Underground that will make your Tube journeys smoother.

    1. Avoid rush hour. Everyone is racing to get to their destination. Travel during other periods is less stressful and will restore your faith in the service.

    2. The right side on the escalator. Stand in the right side on the escalator. Go as far as you can go, then allow experienced commuters to run up the escalator on the left. Only join them if you can guarantee traveling at warp speed.

    3. Get the app before riding the London Underground. Someone calculated which carriage to stand in so that you can be sure of the quickest journey on the Underground.

    4. Look through the free papers. After rush hour, at either end of the day, is a great time for taking a seat and looking at what happened in London the night before. If celebrity gossip is not your thing, check out London’s coming events. There are good guides inside most of the free papers. Plus, they often have deals for restaurants or theater tickets.

    5. A pocket map is a must. You will get lost riding the London Underground; it’s a given. But, the little pocket-size paper maps at stations are handy, so nab one. A map comes in handy when trying to figure out if you’re in the right place. It takes a while to get to know the Underground, so keep trying new routes.

    6. How about an alternative map? Get an arty, alternative map of the Tube, a Dr. Who Tube map or a literary map. The list goes on. These are great to collect as travel mementos, keep your eye out for different ones when riding the London Underground.

    7. Stay near a well-connected Tube station. You will understand how important and convenient it is to be near a well-connected Tube station. One of the best areas to stay in London is Kensington and South Kensington. Both have direct Tubes to Piccadilly, Knightsbridge, Kings Road and the Theatre District. You’ll have so much of London right outside your door.

    8. Visit the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden. Complete with old Tubes, buses and trains, and knowledgeable staff.

Can You Save By Canceling, Rebooking Cruise

If you find a better deal on your cruise fare after booking, you may think that there's no hope of saving the money already paid. According to an analysis by digital cruise advisor Cruisewatch, there is still a potential to save a significant amount of money.

Research by Cruisewatch.com shows that prices on cruises can drop significantly as the departure date nears. "Most cruisers tend to book trips four to six months in advance," explains Markus Stumpe, CEO of Cruisewatch, "but it could be very beneficial for them to cancel and then rebook their cruise at fares reduced up to 71 percent." This is particularly true if the chosen cruise offers less-strict fee structures.

Generally, cruise lines break down into three cancellation categories: soft, moderate, and strict.

Lines like Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Star Clippers, offer "softer" fees, and may charge only a 25 percent cancellation fee on average at least 30 days before departure.

Moderate lines, including Viking Cruises, Windstar Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, MSC Cruises, Costa Cruise Line, Hurtigruten Cruise Lines, Cunard, Crystal Cruises, SeaDream, Princess Cruises, and Disney Cruise Line, offer a little more wiggle room, though they also charge about 90 percent for cancellations occurring within 30 days of departure. However, cancellation fees average only 15 percent 90 days or more before departure.

Strict lines, on the other hand, like Oceania Cruises, Ponant, Azamara Club Cruises, Regent Seven Seas, Silversea Cruises, and Seabourn tend to offer little or no refunds unless you cancel at least 120 days in advance. Within the last 60 days you normally have to pay a 100 percent fee.

To illustrate the potential savings, take this possible real-world situation: Someone books a cruise on Celebrity Eclipse 150 days before departure and pays a total of $5,000. Forty days before departure, this person sees an offer on the same ship with a savings of 40 percent. The cancellation fee on Celebrity is 20 percent or $1,000. In this instance you can rebook and save money.

Cancellation fee structures for most cruise lines are often strict and difficult to understand and multiple factors influence each policy. The length of the cruise, how far in advance you're able to cancel, destination, cabin type, or cruise category can all contribute to the final cancellation fee. Booking special deals may mean higher cancellation fees. In most cases, deposits paid are also non-refundable. Often you will need to draft a formal written document in order to cancel the cruise.

If the cancellation fees are prohibitive, there may be alternatives for recouping the difference in prices. Some cruise lines offer onboard credit as reimbursement for price differences, or significant upgrades where available.

One way to determine whether it's worth it to cancel and rebook your cruise is look at your cruise line's cancellation policy. If you're still in the planning stages, you are likely comparing prices, policies, and packages. This time-consuming process is a must for those looking for the best deals. Using online tools can help save time in the short term, and money long-term.
