    Community Platform Pet Sitting

LocalDawgs connects local pet owners with each other to eliminate the cost of pet sitting.

More than half of U.S. households own a pet. People have busy lifestyles; families on-the-go, working professionals, millennials with wanderlust. These schedules don't always work well for pets and we want to be sure that our pets are well cared for while we're away.

There are apps that connect pet owners with pet care, but at a high cost. The LocalDawgs app is the solution to expensive pet sitting. This member-based, community platform connects local pet owners with each other to exchange pet sitting instead of money. The pet owners are the pet sitters.

With share-based pet care - one member pet sits for you, and you reciprocate to that member or another member - for free. Pet owners are well versed in caring for pets and understand their needs and demands. The added bonus is that connecting local pet owners with each other builds communities and friendships - for humans and their pets.

It's easy to join - sign up to become a member. There is a free 30-day trial period and then a $3.99 monthly fee. The annual cost is cheaper than one night of pet sitting. Create a profile for you and your pet and then select the dates you are going away or available to pet sit. See who is available in your neighborhood and browse their profiles. Read reviews and connect with another member to meet up.

    Barcelona Wi-Fi on 1,000+ Buses

Barcelona City Council announced that Barcelona Wi-Fi, one of the largest city Wi-Fi deployments in Europe, expands their Wi-Fi service to its entire fleet of 1,003 buses. Barcelona Wi-Fi is enabled by Aptilo Networks and the Aptilo Service Management Platform (SMP), a state-of-the art system to deliver and manage carrier-class Wi-Fi services.

Barcelona Wi-Fi covers most of Barcelona City with free Wi-Fi from more than 1,100 access points at outdoor and indoor locations.

Users register for Barcelona Wi-Fi on their first visit through a captive portal in Aptilo SMP adapted to the screen size of the user's device. Users are verified in a one-time procedure through a link emailed to their account. They are automatically connected to the Wi-Fi network upon subsequent visits, as Aptilo SMP remembers user identifying information from the first verification.

Due to government regulations, Barcelona Wi-Fi may not exceed speeds above 256 Kb/s at outdoor locations. Excepted are Barcelona City Council websites and indoor locations such as libraries and museums, which can be accessed with unlimited data speeds. Aptilo SMP handles policies to control bandwidth, opening hours and allowed connection times depending on the hotspot location.

Barcelona Wi-Fi is also available as a commercial premium service with unlimited speeds through a local service provider that is also using Aptilo SMP.

Spot the Signs of Drowsy Driving

To help keep our roads safe, drivers are encouraged to watch for the warning signs of drowsy driving:
    • Inability to recall the last few miles driven
    • Having disconnected or wandering thoughts
    • Difficulty focusing or keeping your eyes open
    • Feeling as though your head is very heavy
    • Drifting out of your driving lane
    • Yawning repeatedly
    • Accidentally tailgating other vehicles
    • Missing traffic signs.

When faced with fatigue or drowsy driving symptoms, the Canadian Automobile Association urges you to find a safe place to pull over.

If you are involved in a collision:
    • Stay calm and pull off the road safely
    • Note your vehicle's location. This will come in handy when calling for assistance
    • If you must get out of your vehicle, watch carefully for oncoming traffic especially at night or in bad weather
    • Never stand behind or directly in front of your vehicle, as you are at risk of being struck by drivers who might not see you
    • If you CANNOT pull off the road, turn on your emergency flashers
    • Call 911 for help.
Data collected by Ontario's Ministry of Transportation between 2010 and 2014 shows that:
    • Sixty-five percent of fatal collisions and 42 percent of injury collisions involve a fatigued driver
    • Forty-one per cent of fatal collisions and 67 percent of injury collisions involving a fatigued driver were single-vehicle in nature
    • Drivers aged 17 to 24 were 2.4 times more likely to be involved in fatigue related collisions than the general driving population

    Tofino Expeditions Special Savings

Tofino Expeditions offers sea kayak-supported explorations at locales that awe guests who prefer the serenity and special access that water offers when discovering new worlds.

In 1992 Tofino Expeditions began offering wilderness tours in and around Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site, often referred to as “Canada’s Galapagos” due to the archipelago’s unique ecology. The totem poles grouped along the shoreline of an ancient village is one of the unique experiences awaiting visitors.

Tofino Expeditions’ eight-day Haida Gwaii kayaking tours in July and August 2017 engage paddlers of all ability levels on coastal waters surrounding some 150 islands located 80 miles off British Columbia’s northwest coast. Paddlers land on the same beaches that the Haida, an indigenous people, once accessed when pulling cedar canoes ashore.

2017 offers a special value. The per person double rate is $1,990. This year, Parks Canada waives its $120 CDN park access fee in honor of their 150th birthday celebration (saving you $120 CDN).

You explore the Islands utilizing two-person tandem expedition kayaks that are 25 percent faster than single kayaks with additional stability that eliminates the need to wear cold water immersion gear while paddling. Each day guides prepared meals. This wildness trip uses Mountain Hardwear four seasons mountaineering tents. Two guests share a tent designed for three persons allowing extra elbow room. You arrive and depart through Sandspit airport (YZP) on the northeast tip of Moresby Island.

Haida Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve (Gwaii Haanas means "Place of Wonder") was founded to protect the natural and cultural integrity of the remote southern portion of the archipelago. Formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, UNESCO declared the village of Skung Gwaii with its intact totem poles, a World Heritage Site.

In addition to cultural heritage, the region has sea lions; gulls, petrels and tufted puffins; humpback and orca whales; and tidal shallows with brightly colored sea stars. Burnaby Narrows is considered the richest inter-tidal life zone on the planet. Indigenous land animals unique to this region are the dusky shrew, pine marten and the Haida Gwaii black bear that thrives on salmon and crustaceans.
