KT Discount on SIMs, WiFi for Visitors
|A telecommication company in South Korea, KT Corp., offers a promotion for foreign visitors who purchase its SIM-card and WiFi services through the end of the year.
Foreign travelers can receive a discount of up to 50 percent on KT's mobile roaming services when pre-ordering online from the company's English website.
KT SIMs can be purchased at the KT's Roaming Center, at the Incheon, Gimpo and Gimhae airports and Busan Port – by providing a valid passport or an Alien Registration Card as an official form of identification, and a credit card matching the applicant's name with an expiration date extending more than three months from the purchase date.
KT offers two temporary SIMs for travelers: Prepaid Data SIMs and Prepaid SIMs. KT's Prepaid Data SIMs offer unlimited data usage and free inbound calls and texts, while Prepaid SIMs also allow outbound calls and texts at affordable rates.
Handsets that have country locks are not compatible with KT SIMs. It is advised that travelers call their home service providers to check if their handsets are unlocked.
Mobile users who plan to stay in South Korea for a long time, or are traveling in a group, should consider the KT WiFi Router. The wireless router allows multiple users to simultaneously access unlimited data. The router can generally handle up to three connections at one time without connection troubles.
Foreign visitors can use KT SIMs on their smartphones immediately after checking their handset's compatibility at the KT Roaming Center. Third parties cannot collect KT SIMs and payments can be made with credit cards or in Korean won.
KT SIMs can be returned to any Roaming Center and a third party may do returns. The service can only be used on smartphones with WCDMA capabilities, and certain functions such as video calls may only be available depending on the model of the handset.
KT SIM customers receive duty free benefits, such as a free VIP Silver Card with a 10 percent discount at Lotte Duty Free Shops, a 10,000 won prepaid cash card and $10 worth of online Lotte Duty Free credits. Taking part in the discount is simple. After collecting the KT SIM, visit the Lotte Duty Free Shop along with a passport and the KT SIM package to receive the benefits.

Red Cross Tips for Safe Vacations
|Many people take a trip that involves international travel. If you are planning a trip which involves driving across a border, sailing to a coastline, or flying halfway around the world, the American Red Cross has some steps you can take to stay safe.
- Download the first aid app. The American Red Cross first aid app puts expert advice for everyday emergencies in your hand. Arming yourself with basic first aid skills can save a life. Download the app while you're still in the United States, otherwise you'll download the local Red Cross mobile app (which will be in the local language).
- Make a plan. Just like at home, establish a time and place to meet family members in case you get separated.
- Know what natural disasters are possible. It's important to research whether your destination faces emergencies you've never experienced. While you'll need to gauge the local context, the Red Cross offers basic tips about what to do during natural disasters such as tsunamis, volcanoes, and hurricanes.
- Register your trip with the State Department. Enter your travel details with the free Smart Traveler Enrollment Program online, which allows the State Department to better assist you in case of an emergency while you are abroad. You can also get information about safety conditions in the country you are planning to visit.
- Write down contact details for the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to carry with you in case of emergency while traveling.
- Check out the State Department's 'What the Department of State Can and Can't Do in a Crisis' and have an evacuation plan that doesn't rely on the U.S. government.
- Keep your destination country's emergency numbers handy. Find your destination country on a reference sheet from the State Department and write down the emergency numbers for the fire department, police, or an ambulance before you take off.
- Know the six-month passport rule. Some countries deny travelers entry if their passport expires in less than six months. Renew your passport about nine months before the expiration date.
- Let your credit card company know what countries you will be visiting and when. This way, they won't think your card is stolen and shut it off just when you need it the most.
- Pack your International Certificate of Vaccination. Referred to as the "yellow card," it lists your immunizations, allergies, and blood type. The "yellow card" is available from your physician or local health department.
- Bring medications and bug repellent. If you're traveling somewhere with mosquito-borne illnesses such as malaria, dengue, or Zika use spray repellent and/or cover your arms and legs with lightweight clothing at critical times of the day. Don't forget your medications and bring other stuff such as OTC pain reliever and something for an upset stomach.
- Check for emergency exits and evacuation routes. Many communities around the world have signs that indicate evacuation routes in case flooding or other natural disasters. Identify evacuation routes at your destination and pay attention to the location of emergency exits.
